What is opt mean?

OPT stands for Optional Practical Training, which is a temporary employment authorization for international students in the United States on an F-1 visa. OPT allows students to work in a field related to their major or area of study for up to 12 months after completing their academic program. It is typically recommended for students to apply for OPT during the last semester of their program, and they must receive authorization from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) before they can start working.

There are two types of OPT: pre-completion and post-completion. Pre-completion OPT allows students to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) while they are still enrolled in their academic program, while post-completion OPT allows students to work full-time after they have completed their program.

OPT is a valuable opportunity for international students to gain practical work experience in the United States, which can enhance their professional skills and increase their chances of finding employment in their field after completing their studies.
